Mrs. Caswell
Kindergarten
Welcome to Kindergarten KA! My name is Barbara Caswell. I have taught Kindergarten at Pacific Christian for 29 years. I have been blessed to watch the children in my classes grow into productive young adults. I now have the opportunity to teach the children of former students. This is an exciting age group to work with. Everything is so new and exciting for them.
Our class theme for the year is “I am lovable and capable”. God loves us unconditionally. With His help, we are capable of doing any task put before us.
Bible verse: …if you have the faith of a mustard seed…nothing will be impossible for you. Matthew 17:20
A Beka, Sadlier Oxford, and ACSI are the main curriculums used in Kindergarten. We cover Phonics, Reading, Math, Science, Social Science, Music, Handwriting, and Physical Education. Other curriculums are also used to supplement and enrich our program.
Kindergartners start off the year with a Teddy Bear Picnic to meet their teacher and classmates. Each child is also assigned to a 6th grade buddy. We meet weekly with our buddies to work on special projects together. The children look forward to taking home our class mascot, an elephant, for a weekend. They enjoy sharing the activities they did with the elephant, displaying pictures on a poster. We celebrate the 100th day of school with several activities using 100 as our theme. Career Day gives the students an opportunity to share their parents’ occupations. Several parents come to speak to the classes.
Kindergartners attend a variety of field trips. They enjoy going to Windmill Farms to pick pumpkins and to plant broccoli. The children look forward to visiting Hillview Residence during the Christmas season to sing for the residents. The San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum is another highlight of the year. Graduation closes the school year as the children sing and receive special awards.
