Junior High Science and History

Science

Welcome to the wonderful world of junior high science! I am Miss Rachael J. Frederick and it will be my privilege to be your science teacher. I grew up in Modesto California. I attended Modesto Christian School from preschool to twelve grade. After graduation from high school I went to Bethany College where I got a BA in Child Development. I started teaching at Modesto Christian School and taught there for 6 years. I came to Pacific Christian School five years ago. I have found that teaching junior high science and history is an amazing way to reach students for Jesus. I am currently working on my Masters in Elementary Education.

I strive to have my classroom be a place where students feel safe and loved. I want my students to leave Pacific Christian School with the understanding that science is part of the amazing world that God has given us and that as students it is their job to try to appreciate God’s great creation.

The topics that are covered in the 7th grade science are all based in the study of life science. The students will work from the beginning of a cell and end up at looking at how ears and eyes function. Along the way the students study genetics, plants, and animals. We also do between three to six dissections each year. Projects for the 7th grade range from incredible edible cells to a science fair in the spring. The more labs the students are able to do the better they will remember what they have studied.

8th grade science is based in both earth science and physical science. The students start the year working in Earth science studying stars, planets, meteors and comets. From there the students go into physical science where chemistry and physics are studied. At the end of the year the students study rocketry. During this time the students build and launch rockets. Throughout the physical science section the students do many labs. Labs that the students do range from building egg carton cars to working with chemicals to see what types of changes occur. The students also participate in the science fair toward the end of the year.

History

8th grade History focuses on United State history. The students start the year learning about early explorers that came to the Americas. The students work their way through colonial times, The Revolutionary War, The Constitution, The Civil War, World War I and II. The students also do an in-depth study of The Holocaust. The students have projects due once a quarter in History. The projects range from Colonial Trades, Washington DC Tour Guide to The Civil War Wax Museum.

Field Trips in junior high focus around the Washington DC trip that takes place in January. The trip is a ten day trip. Students will see a variety of historically important places. From Williamsburg to New York City, the students see as much as they can. In Washington DC the students will see The Capitol, White House, The Holocaust Museum, Smithsonian Museums, and The Pentagon. This trip is packed with wonders and is a trip that the students will always remember.
