Elementary
Our Elementary program begins with a full-day Kindergarten program that focuses on individualized reading. By the end of their year, many of our Kindergartners are reading like second graders. Their math results are not far behind. This jump start sets the pace for academic life at PCS.
Our curriculum is selected with national and CA state standards in mind: National, because our assessment testing is the SAT-10 (Stanford Achievement Test, 10th edition), which considers the national academic horizon; State, because we understand that some of our students will go to CA public schools when they graduate.
We also select curriculum based on a Biblical worldview, adding supplements if necessary. Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Keeping the Lord at the center of our curriculum synergizes our academic efforts.
To balance the rigorous pace, we make sure the learning process is fun and engaging. We take learning outside the classroom with many field trips to reinforce and expand what students have learned in the classroom. We also have major field trips that complement our history and science curriculum.
In fourth grade we take a three day educational trip to Sacramento as the culmination of our California history unit. In sixth grade we participate in a five day outdoor science camp that extends and compliments the Science instruction students have gained over the year. In eighth grade the students take a ten-day trip to Washington D.C. as a culmination of their language arts and history curriculum.
