Library & Tutoring
Library
The library at Pacific Christian School plays a vital role in the total educational program of the school. Providing a program of services and resources, the library enhances the academic curriculum and addresses the interest and abilities of students, teachers, administrators, and parents. The PCS Library strives to provide materials that encourage spiritual and intellectual growth as well as help students appreciate their cultural, social, and political heritage as American citizens and as Christians.
Library Hours
Monday: Thursday, 10:00am – 3:30 pm. (Friday by appointment only.)
Study Hall for Daycare: Monday – Thursday from 3:30 – 4:45
Students are welcome to use the library at lunch time and during study hall after school. Teachers schedule library time for their students when assignments require research though books, journals, magazines, and the internet. Elementary school grades have scheduled library periods weekly for K-3 and every other week for grades 4-6. The library is open to all students during times when there are no scheduled classes.
Currently we have 6 student computers in our library for research and for taking RC quizzes or to search for a book in our collection.
Our students also participate in the Scholastic Reading Counts program. This program encourages readers to choose books of interest within their r4eading level.
Our library collection currently holds over 5,000 books but has the capacity to double its titles. We are continually adding to our collection and we cheerfully accept donations.
Tutoring
Tutoring is a period of individual instruction to help students achieve, feel successful, and find self confidence in areas of learning where they are having difficulty. Individual learning styles are taken into consideration.
Tutors help students in math, phonics, reading (to include reading readiness, deciphering words, word meaning, comprehension, remedial reading) including the value and pleasure of reading.
Spelling, language, math, memorization skills, and vocabulary building are other learning “tools” with which students may be challenged and need help, guidance, direction, and assistance.
Tutoring also helps students with study skills, preparation for taking test, and learning to express themselves verbally and in writing.
